Handstitched Leaf

Handstitched Leaf

You will need...
Felt
Tweed or other suitable fabric
Embroidery thread
Needle
Scissors

How to make your handstitched leaf...

1. Cut out 2 identical leaf shapes - you can use the template or make up your own shape.  Felt is a good material to use for this as it doesn’t fray.

2. Cut out a smaller piece in the shape of an eye to go on top of one of your leaf shapes.  You can use a different coloured felt for this or a piece of tweed or other suitable fabric.

3. Using embroidery thread, secure your smaller piece of fabric onto your leaf shape by stitching up the middle and out to the sides to create the look of leaf veins.  Backstitch works well for this.

4. Add additional stitching round the edge of this smaller piece to secure in position e.g. running stitch or backstitch.

5. You could also stitch on some beads at this stage.

6. Place your two leaf shapes together and sew together with a running stitch or blanket stitch.

7. Leave a small gap to add some stuffing before you finish off – don’t overstuff though.
